Hotpoint split drum bearings
I ALWAYS UNPLUG FROM THE MAINS.
I took off the rear access panel and saw the tell tale signs of faulty bearings (water stains) aswell as noisy on spin.In the early stages new bearings can be fitted but if left too long then a new rear half and drum support will be needed.
Remove the screws from around the centre of the drum. Some have spring clips fitted aswell so these will have to be removed.I put some silicone on this seal on re-assembly,if a new seal is not to be fitted. |
Then i put the drum on its side and placed my knee on the outer drum and hit the drum shaft with a hammer.
A STEEL HAMMER WILL DAMAGE THE SHAFT |
When it came out give it a clean and inspect the shaft. This one has seen better days.If a new shaft is needed , a good quality drill bit, to drill out the screws, will be required. If the screw heads are ok then i usually give the heads of the screws a good hard hit and a T30 torx bit will usually loosen the screws |
This is the rear bearing, i got a steel bar,and a hammer, placed the bar through the hole onto the bearing inside the rear half and hit bearing out. |
Place bar in here to hammer bearing out. |
I turned the drum over and removed the other bearings,i had to be careful with the heater and lugs.
These are 30mm bearings (they also use 35mm bearing , i measured the shaft at its thickest point ). |
I hammered in the rear bearing, and made sure it was right in.
I hammered in the front bearing making sure it was right in because space is needed to fit the front seal |
I pushed in the front seal and in went the inner drum ( i used silicone on the centre seal before assembly). |
