Use caution when repairing electrical appliances ,with the machine always unplugged from the mains supply.

I have been repairing domestic appliance for over 25 years and my knowledge has been recorded on this site .

The information in this site is free for anyone to read as you wish as long as you read and understand the smallprint.

These pages are demonstrations of how i repair various faults.

Hotpoint Indesit split pump
image one Cancel the program and then select drain on the selector and restart the program.
Does it not empty?
Does it empty too slow?

Check the sink outlet before you start.


UNPLUG FROM MAINS

Remove all traces of water from the machine because when you remove any hoses the water will flood out.If you lower the grey hose ,at the rear,into a bowl then it should pour out .When the bowl is full raise the hose and the water will stop,Then you can empty the bowl.Have a towel ready.If the water doesn`t come out then you probably have a blockage.
Remove rear access panel.The number of screws vary.

Once removed if it looks like this.


Undo the large jubilee clip just above where it says filter and the sump should drop down.

Remove the ball and filter to check for any foreign bodies.It may be blocked with coins, bra wires, etc.


The filter will only go back one way as there is a off center hole in the bottom.Check the sump and hose for any blockages.Replace the filter and sump.

Remove the pump by lifting the lug slightly and sliding to the left.Some of them are screwed from below ,check first.


Twist it so the rear of the pump is facing,and remove the 3 screws.

Make sure you know which way the pump goes on before removing it to aid assembly.Pull the pump to remove it.Clean the housing and check for any foreign bodies.Check the hose.


Check the pump for any blockages.

With a multimeter measure the windings they should read about 165 ohms.These windings have burn`t out ,as you can see in the photo on the right, .Check the grey outlet hose to make sure it is not blocked.Check under the sink ,if applicable ,where the water goes out.


This is jammed with an elastic band.


Pumps are very prone for getting noisy and it might overheat through the cycle and when it cools down it could work ok.


Re assemble in reverse order.
